SARBATI DEVI WOMEN�S COLLEGE was established in the year 1981 in this small but cosmopolitan town of RAJGANGPUR with the patronage of renowned philanthropist late Sri. Panalal Agrawal with a view to providing education to local girls in the name of his wife Sarbati Devi. But, now the College has grown into an important centre of learning for women catering to the needs of all categories of students of Sundargarh District as well as other parts of the state.The College was inaugurated by Sj. Gangadhar Mohapatra, the then Minister, Education and Youth services, Govt. of Odisha on 18.10.1981 with Sj. Kishore Chandra Patel, the then Minister of State, Industries as guest of honour. Sj. HarmohanPattnaik, I.A.S., Collector and District Magistrate, Sundargarh was the first President and Sj. Nandkishore Agrawal, Industrialist, was the first General Secretary of the Managing Committee.

The biggest asset of College is its team of dedicated teaching and non teaching staff whose continuous and sincere efforts have helped the College to pass through 40 years in materializing the goals and objectives and give a new direction. Since, this college is situated in a rural area and is imparting women� education at the lowest cost, the institution could fulfill the dreams of the many rural and economically backward Women of Odisha. The HEI is having 11 departments through Honours programmes (B.A. & B.Sc.).

Being attracted by its reputation in its academic excellence, a large number of rural students with good academic records take admission in different courses of the college every year. No tuition fee is collected from the students, SC and ST student as per the direction of the state Government. The College also provides different type of scholarships and free-ships to Girl students and economically backward students. Gender sensitization programs are also seen in the different programs of the college - such as Lectures/Seminars, Sports, Cultural competitions and also in NCC, NSS, YRC and Rovers ranger units of this college. Students participate with full enthusiasm in each and every unit (academic as well as extra-curricular activities) of the college. Additionally, local people also use college campus for running, walking, and the play grounds for daily practice and it also provides logistic support to local athletes every day for their development. In order to ensure physical fitness to students and the youth, the Gym remains open for three hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening for its use. The HEI also allows its infrastructure for the use of the Local administration in various government sensitization programs, conducting general Elections, General Election Training programs, centre for Learners Driving license and COVID19 management etc. Therefore, we can say the college provides quality education and opportunities for intellectual and emotional growth through different programs which are relevant and responsive to the needs of the rural and educationally backward society of this region of the state.

The Priority

The College gives priority to promote education for economically poor girl students of rural background. These students can�t afford their education in the urban colleges due to high cost of living. Our college provides quality education vis-� vis encourage them to participate in extra-curricular activities like NSS, NCC, YRC, Rovers ranger and sports along with cultural and literary activities.

Thrust

The college has well qualified faculty members in different departments. They have taken their degrees from the premier institutes from different part of the country. Therefore, students from rural background are very much benefited from our faculty members. This is our thrust area which makes us distinctive in performance of the institution.

Sarbati Devi Women�s College Affiliated under Sambalpur University has an excellent track record in the field of academics, Culture, Literature, Athletics and sports. It is committed to its students and the other stake holders to provide quality education and other best facilities, so that our students of future generation can transform the world. .Formation and Excellence in Academics begins at the class-room level. Courses and curricula are designed to be more job-oriented with human touch and are annually revised by a group of experienced and renowned professors of the state, so as to increase the chances of employment and infuse skills in students, develop a zeal for entrepreneurship and to excel in challenging situations . Teaching pedagogies are student-centric. Interactions with Academia, Industry experts are often facilitated with intent to keep the students informed and updated. Additionally, industrial visits and educational tours are conducted by the departments in order to sensitize students about the practical challenges they have to face at the time of employment and higher studies and also that the business organizations face on an operational basis. All departments conduct seminars, conferences, workshops, Guest lectures and fests for the benefit of the students.

The College is having a registered Alumni Association and organizes �Alumni Meet� every year in order to connect them with the development process. The HEI�s career Counseling and Placement Cell has a great track record of placing students in public as well as private sector and at entry and middle-level positions. The College adheres to different way of looking at problems and solving them in a logical manner. The thinking process that goes into it helps students to develop their creativity and problem solving skills. By exploring new and better ways of educating the students and by disseminating various skills, students become innovators by themselves. The HEI uses adaptive teaching methods with blended learning, better serve students and teaching them about the benefits of innovative thinking does so much more than just 'fill the pail'. It ignites a passion for learning and provides students with the tools they need to succeed in the innovative economy i.e. entrepreneurship with innovation.

The College believes in the Value-based Leadership as one of the Core Value enshrined in its Vision and Mission. All events in the college either at the departmental level or at the college- level, are organized to foster leadership and team work which are value based. There is an elite Student Leadership body called the �Student Council�, with about 100 students from UG sections working under various portfolios such as Discipline, Documentation, Fine Arts, Cultural Activities, Hospitality, Media & Photography, Event Management, Clubs, Creative, Literary and Sports. Students also take the lead in NSS, NCC, Women Empowerment Cell, and College cultural Club. Students occupying such leadership positions are groomed by their respective Coordinators.

They have established their presence in the field of Dance, song and Drama conspicuously in the state and National level. Literature- Alumni have established their presence in the state and National level.

The College has created large number of School teachers who are imparting education in the nearby 50 schools. By this way the institution is addressing the requirement of the quality teachers in the local area and also making students employable.

The Department of Higher Education, Odisha has selected the Institution among 56 colleges to sanction Rupees 4.36 Crore World Bank Assistance for CIVIL and Non-Civil work.

NCC, NSS, YRC and Rover ranger wings of the College are taking part in the Government sponsored programs like, Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, Literacy Program and in survey & Awareness drive. Afforestation drives, Health Check up and other program for benefit of the nearby villages.

The College is well connected with the District Administration. The Government? of Odisha has selected our college for a place of different government activities in the interest of the society.

As an Institution the IQAC is actively working towards Initiation, Introduction, Dissemination and Implementation of practices that have an overall impact on Holistic Development. The entire Leadership of the College though wishes to bring about and introduce New Concepts/Approaches but are bound by Government Rules & Regulations thereby impacting the Pace of Execution on several occasions. However a Futuristic/Progressive, Roadmap/Blueprint is worked upon before the beginning of every Academic Session.
